A CHRISTMAS BROOCH BOUQUET

Brooch bouquet

Today is the last day my decorations are up, tomorrow afternoon I will start packing them away. I will miss them! Have you packed everything up and begin the new year with a nice orderly home? At times I want to do that but I always end up leaving everything out through NYE.  I didn't do a lot of decorating this year, just pulled out a few things and made  vignettes. It was a busy summer and fall, a little renovating, painting and traveling. I hope your Christmas was merry and you are enjoying your New Year’s Eve.

My brooch bouquet was a birthday gift from my sister. She attended a wedding where the bride had a brooch bouquet for her bridal bouquet. She loved it and made one (no she's not getting married, she is married) for herself to enjoy. When I saw it I hinted I would like to have one. She started looking for vintage jewelry, pins, earrings etc. I ask for Christmas colors. My bouquet has my mom’s pieces, pieces from my MIL, my sister's MIL, SIL and friends. It also has my dad's cufflinks so of course it is so very special! It has a velvet ribbon wrapped stem. Hope you enjoy looking at my bouquet and  my Christmas home tour.

One of my projects this past summer was painting the hutch. I choose black for a completely different look and I really like it. Everything really pops now. For Christmas I used my Spode Victorian plates with my pewter chargers. Love the blue with pewter.

I hope you are enjoying your New Year's Eve and  ringing in the new year with friends and family. Wishing you peace and joy and all the best in 2016! Thank you for your visit and support.

Here’s to the blessings of the year,
Here’s to the friends we hold dear,
To peace on earth, both far and near.

Glory to God in highest heaven,
Who into man His Son hath given;
While angels sing with tender mirth,
A glad new year to all the earth!

  2. Emily, your home is beautiful anytime of year, but oh how special it is to see the Christmas decorations in every room. I loved this little tour. It made me feel as if I were there enjoying a cup of tea sitting by the newly painted French hutch. ;-)
Your dishes throughout are all lovely. Like you, I love the look of pewter chargers. Your pretty blue and white vases on the mantel and the foot bath on the table, all add elegance. And that glorious tree in your living room. It is simply majestic! I wouldn't want to take it down and pack things away till the very last minute. Ha! That is basically what I'm doing here. I packed away most Christmas things today, but our tree is still up and decorated, lights twinkling as we bring in 2016 in a few hours. Chickadees are still out on the mantel too. I just can't put it all away just yet.
The brooch bouquet is so unusual and special. How sweet that it holds pieces from loved ones. Did I overlook your birthday? How did that happen?
Will call you soon. Happy New Year!

  3. Hello Emily, and a very happy New Year to you!

I made a brooch bouquet for my daughter two years ago. It's actually in my sidebar if you'd like to check it out. Your bouquet is so lovely and special, I'm sure you will enjoy it for many, many years to come.

Your decorations are so festive and cheerful, in contrast to what I did this year, which is zero. We are traveling so it just wasn't practical.

  4. Hi, Emily! Happy New Year! I really enjoyed seeing your beautiful home decorated for Christmas. I do like your hutch painted black, too. I was wondering, what you have your silver tree siting in -- it looks like a large tray of snow? Really pretty. My late cousin had one of those trees, too. I had a little one long, long ago, don't know whatever happened to it. I am going back to pin some of your photos!

  5. Your home looks absolutely beautiful at Christmas. I love your sideboard with the beautiful blue things - they really do stand out against the black background.

I too have taken down my Christmas things which have been up since the first Sunday of Advent at the end of November & now the house looks very bare ...

  6. Emily, I am gasping. Each photo is like a present, more beautiful than the one before! Everything is so beautiful is hard to pick a favorite -- a magnificent tree or a mantle? How on earth did you get your shiny balls to stand tall on your mantle. I suspect hot glue was involved. It's a great look. It's all a great look. Loving your blue Victorian china, the white mantle trees, the gorgeous broach and every detail.

It takes me a long while to get everything down -- the most Christmassy first, then the winter trees. I swap out Santas for snow folk (probably this weekend) but leave up the greenery and lights just to brighten the winter a bit. And yes, come Valentine's day, you might find a heart or two stuck in.

Thank you for all this loveliness! Happy New Year!

  7. Happy New Year Emily! I have been pouring over your holiday photos, and my favorite is the mice on the clock, that is the cutest thing I've ever seen!! I love your black hutch, and it is gorgeous styled with your pewter and blue. I have never seen or heard of a brooch bouquet, what an incredible way to save, enjoy and display special jewelry! I hope 2016 brings much joy and happiness your way~

  9. What an enchanting home you have at Christmastide. The silver tree especially attracted me. Mine is weighted more to red and white. The music here is so soothing. Wishing you all the best in 2016.

  13. The bouquet is stunning, Emily. I ran across those while planning our daughter's wedding, and instantly fell in love. She opted for fresh flowers with a vintage jeweled tussie mussie handle instead, but these are gorgeous. What a great idea, to make one for ourselves...just because. I'm inspired.
Love your holiday decorations. I wish I could have a do-over for December. The wedding simply had all our attention. I am reliving it a little through your post though.
    Happy New Year, my friend.
Blessings to you and your loved ones.
