Hello dear friends and welcome to another Tales of The Traveling Tote. We have been busy here, just not with exciting travel adventures! The holidays kept us very busy with family and friends.
~~~~~
In December I met Jenna from the Painted Apron and Ricki Jill from The Sketchy Reader at a favorite Vestavia restaurant. We enjoyed a little bubbly and sweet treats to celebrate birthdays!
We had a great lunch while catching up
I look forward to seeing these sweet girls again soon!
I have been frequenting favorite shops and a little antiquing since moving, I guess you could say I've been on the hunt for a few pieces to add to a collection. No luck yet but I always enjoy the hunt.
December is my favorite month of the year! I love decorating, baking and seeing family and friends.
Christmas
Christmas Day
Christmas Day started out with the sweet celebration of family gathered to celebrate Christmas. With family gathered around the dining table I noticed Jim didn't seem himself. After the meal I asked what is wrong, "I've lost sight in my right eye!" This definitely called for a trip to the ER. After numerous tests he was discharged with instructions to see the ophthalmologist. Long story short, the lens from cataract surgery twenty-five years ago had dropped away leaving him with no vision in the right eye. After a long wait he had surgery last week. Vision is slowly returning and we are both so very thankful. No lifting or exercising since Christmas Day. Hopefully after the next checkup he will be able to get back to his daily routine.
Valentine's Day
Mac the Bear and Kenzie from MacKenzie-Childs, celebrating the big day with flowers and candies.
With a tease of spring in the air for a few days with surprisingly mild temperatures, February has brought spring fever! I decided to make a visit to one of our local big box garden centers to look for early spring flowers. I wasn't disappointed!
So much for spring weather here, storms yesterday brought a cold front so spring will have to wait!
Tell me, do you have spring fever?
Now for the giveaway!
ReplyDeleteHi Emily! December is such a fun and busy month, and our birthday luncheon was definitely a highlight! It was nice seeing your house decked out for Christmas, and I'm so glad Jim's surgery is finally behind him and he's recovering. I have been thinking and praying about you. I love that you've been having fun antiquing and poking around. Your teddy bear Valentine tea party is adorable! Yes Spring has been springing around here, I hope our warmer temps return soon, I have had Spring fever since the beginning of February! I hope we can get together soon~
ReplyDelete❤️ Jenna
Please give Jim our best, and so glad his vision is slowly returning. Very scary, and he looks great. I love how you used the checked napkin as a tablecloth for the bears! I might have to copy that when my granddaughter and I celebrate Patrick's Day :-) Happy March Emily!
ReplyDeleteWow Emily, how scary for Jim to lose sight in one eye. So glad he is recovering and everything will be back to normal. Your and girls are so fortunate to live close enough to enjoy a birthday lunch. The food looks amazing. We need photos of the three of you next time.😉 your home looked so lovely all decked out for Christmas and Valentine’s Day. How fun to poke around and find some pieces for your new house. Seeing all those pretty flowers makes me yearn for spring. Happy March Emily and Jim.❤️☘️
ReplyDeleteEmily, what are you on the hunt for? Do tell? I'm not really on the hunt for anything, but you know me, I love to hunt thrifts and antique shops. The birthday lunch with Jenna and Ricki Jill must be such fun. I envy you three living close enough to get together like you do. Your tea with the bears is adorable and the flowers with the bag, well, you know I'm loving every bloom. Glad that Jim's eye issue has improved with good prospects for normal vision. I know this has been frightening.
ReplyDeleteHow Scary for Jim. So glad he is on the mend. So hard not to get back to your routine. I will have to do what you did to see any blooms. Nothing here and a winter storm advisory for tomorrow. We did have a couple of beautiful spring days so that was nice.
ReplyDeleteThat had to be very scary for Jim and you. I am glad it could be fixed. I have never heard of that before either!
ReplyDeleteLove seeing your get together with Ricki Jill, and Jenna!
Yes, I have spring fever. Can't wait.
Poor Jim! How terribly frightening. I'm glad he's on the mend and can see all of your beautiful flowers and such. - happy springtime to both of you.
ReplyDeleteI love that you, Jenn and Ricki Jill celebrate together, Emily. I always enjoy my shopping trips with you. Poor Jim!! However, how very lucky to have his eye taken care of and vision restored. I’ve been busy in my yard whenever it’s nice out. Right now I’m on my patio ! I hope you have a wonderful March.
ReplyDeleteOh what fun getting together with gal pals - I don't think any of us do that nearly enough!!
ReplyDeleteSo sorry about Jim's vision - that is truly scary. My little sister just had a detached retina and man oh man was that frightening. She now has to wear glasses. Hope Jim heals up fast.
Gotta say how much I loved that cute travelin' tote amongst the gorgeous tulips. It snowed here two days ago so I needed that picture!!! Hope you have a fabulous spring.
Emily, I can’t imagine how frightening that must have been for Jim and you. I am so glad his surgery is behind him and he is recovering. How fun that you, Jenna, and Rikki Jill get together for Christmas and birthday celebrations! The flowers in the big box store look so healthy! We are supposed to have rain every day this week! Wishing you a lovely week!
ReplyDeleteYou have had a time -- mostly good but some worrying. I'm glad Jim's vision is returning but that had to be one seriously scary time in your lives. I hope the healing continues well. And how fun to get together with some of my favorite bloggers! It looks like a terrific lunch. And that antique store is to die for! Loved every festive photos-- all lovely! Thanks for coming by, Emily. Happy Spring!a
ReplyDeleteWhat a sweet post. Don't you love RickiJill? I have never met her in person but love her spirit. So glad your hubby's vision is returning. That is so scary to have something like that happen. Have a great week- xo Diana
ReplyDeleteEmily, Jim's vision scare - oh my! So glad it's taken care of now, but boy, that was a long wait, and very scary, I bet! I haven't been able to find much in the line of plants at our big box stores yet, but I am ready and waiting on my Proven Winners direct order, which will come mid-April. Meanwhile, I am weeding and readying other outdoor things. I love that you, Jenna, and Ricki Jill can get together. I want to be there! Be sure to show us any new things you find for furnishing in your new home. I loved your post updating us around the holidays. Happy March!
ReplyDeleteFun post! Dropping in from Jeanie's blog to say hi. Looks like you have had a fun filled time lately.
ReplyDeleteI really enjoyed the birthday luncheon for you and Jenna. We need to get together soon! I also want to drive to Tuscaloosa and go shopping with you, especially in Northport. I am so sorry that I could not get my act together and post this time, but I have been having computer and blog issues, and I simply did not have time to address them.
ReplyDeleteHappy to hear that Jim's sight is getting better. I have never heard of a lens slipping; I have had both lenses replaced so good information to know. It's always fun to dine with friends and catch up. Nice to see the tote traveling and doing some antiquing. The hunt is so fun!
ReplyDeleteIt is a beautiful tote. I appreciate photos featuring it, because it shows its versatility in various settings.
