The Last Rose Of Summer

"'Tis the last rose of summer,
Left blooming alone;
All her lovely companions
Are faded and gone."
-   Thomas Moore, The Last Rose of Summer, 1830

Every September the last rose of summer loses her petals. On this Labor Day my roses are losing their soft velvet petals  to the September wind and rain of Tropical Storm Lee from the Gulf of Mexico. I must not complain, for the storm brought an end to the three digit temperatures and month long drought. The entire month of August brought less than an inch of rain, while Labor Day brought six inches.
My son, daughter-in-law, grandson and sister and brother-in-law came for the weekend. We celebrated the first football game of the season with a brunch on campus and a birthday celebration for our son with a backyard barbecue.
So as we say goodbye to summer and welcome September we have the lovely autumn colors to look forward to.

  4. It looks like you had a great game day brunch. The menu looks so perfect for game day. Great photos of your roses. Mine are mostly gone because of the lack of rain for so long. My noisette has had a few lately, but that's it. Even my Knock Outs have stopped blooming.
    I enjoyed your welcome to Fall.

    Great mosaics and photos from around The Capstone. I am so thankful for the rain, too. Thank goodness we only lost power for two hours compared to some other areas in Birmingham who lost their power for a couple of days!

    Lovely post!
