A Summer Garden Tablescape

We love spending time on our veranda but not so much during the summer with the ever present humidity and heat. At the most time spent here is early morning breakfast and coffee. So, with no dining and certainly no gardening outside until fall I enjoy adding flowers and plants to the rectangular and square dining tables. When the challenge came from the Traveling Tote friends to do a tablescape using our MacKenzie~Childs totes as a centerpiece, I decided to do a summer garden scape and brought a few pieces of Courtly Check outside to use with the totes. The heavy urn I was using as my table centerpiece was already in place and I didn't want to move it so I am using a Little Lime Hydrangea that I will plant in the garden in the fall. I tucked it into Miss Courtney and sat it on one end of the table and added flowering plants to Miss Blossom for the opposite end of the table for a Traveling Tote Tablescape!

SPRING BITS AND BOBS

We welcomed spring here weeks ago and now summer and its sunny hot days have arrived. For the most, it was a wet spring with a lot of rain. Of course all those showers left the flower beds with a lot of weeds. We needed to replace a lot of shrubs in containers so we've had plenty of work outside to catch up with. The roses were plentiful but didn't last long with all the rain. Today I want to share photos of my flowers and a few spring vignettes. I changed up the mantle in the family room and I found a really special piece of Quimper for the hutch. Join me for a quick tour.

Replacing shrubbery

I have baby rabbits with big white cotton tails living in the beds. They sure scratch and leave pine straw all over the walkways. This little stone rabbit sits among the flowers year round and never makes a mess.

While visiting my sister in Atlanta a few weeks ago I found this piece of Quimper marked with a low price. Upon closer inspection I found a crack running down the side. The front and back are flawless, missing a lid I think but I decided it would be a great addition to my collection for displaying on the hutch. I love the way it looks nestled between my collection of copper containers. 

Back outside I need to repaint the iron bench and the pillow covers are faded. Love the pattern so I may try to dye some color back into them.

Spring and you will find ducks and rabbits in my kitchen. A few vignettes I enjoyed making.

I found these mini urns and just fell in love with them. I changed them out replacing the little cherub pots I've used here far to long.

Keeping the candleholders I add two pots found at Anthropologie. I added the fern balls and I have an easy look for summer.

I wanted to try a new recipe. Oven roasted brussels sprout and cauliflower. They are simply delicious.  Simply wash and pat dry. 

Break into florets

Drizzle with olive oil.

Bake on a baking sheet at 350 degrees for about twenty minutes or until tender. I love to drizzle a little freshly squeezed lemon juice over my veggies. Served with smoked chicken breast, an easy and healthy dinner.

We have made a few weekend getaways and been so busy doing spring cleaning and yard work. I am clearing out and cleaning closets and now I'm beginning a new project.
