The French Hutch ~ 2019

As another year is coming to an end and the beginning of a new year will soon be counting down, I've documented the past year at The French Hutch with a collage collection. So, want you join me for a walk through some of the tablescapes, Tales of the Traveling Tote, floral arrangements and food that has been featured in my posts. It's always fun to look through the past years post and even better for me is looking ahead and dreaming about 2020. Wow, that's a little strange, leaving the teens. It will take me awhile to get use to writing that! And now, here are some of the photos I love in a collage collection.

TABLE ARRANGEMENTS

Fall Kitchen Table

I was scrolling through my

friend Sarah's post at Hyacinth for the Soul here awhile back. She inspired me to do a fall arrangement for my kitchen table after seeing her photo of a copper tub at Cottonseed Trading at Marburger Farms. The tub is filled with all of fall's splendor.

I just wanted to use what I had on hand to make an arrangement. I had white pumpkins, baby boos and faux fall hydrangeas. The copper tub belonged to my mother-in-law. It has way to many bumps and dents to count but that's what I love about it. She had the top painted green which didn't work for me. It was painted black to match The French Hutch and sits on the floor in the open space below.

This lasted about a week until I needed something low for setting the table

For this arrangement I used a basket with gold trim from Pottery Barn, the after Christmas sale a few years ago. 

This size is easy to move around on the table for setting a table for two, four or six. I think this will last awhile.

A VALENTINE'S SERIES, FEBRUARY AND WINTER

February and Winter

Punxsutawney Phil did not see his shadow so that may be why here in the south we have been enjoying mild temperatures in the sixties and seventies. I love winter but I am looking froward to spring after all of this nice weather. We probably still have a lot more winter to come, just guess I am having spring fever a little early. I know so many of you are still in the throes of a Polar Vortex and haven't been flirting with spring. Here, we go from one extreme to the next. Only a few days ago we were under a winter weather warning, meaning buy your milk and bread and don't drive. Everyone cleaned out the supermarkets but thank goodness we didn't get the ice and snow just freezing temperatures.

We were however, already getting the jokes about our rush to prepare for the cold, ice and snow!

So, what to do inside to feel warm and cozy and still bring a little spring inside? I normally add furry throws and pillows on sofas and beds and for spring I love fresh flowers. This week I had fun with a few vignettes mixing a little spring and winter.










I love Trader Joe's for fresh flowers. I picked up these potted  Tete-a-Tete miniature daffodils and enjoyed them in a centerpiece for the breakfast table. After they started to dry out I snipped them to enjoy in a vase then I snipped the little heads for playing. My favorite flower!

My daffodils in the flower beds are in different stages of blooming. I think I'll have a big show this year.

The maidenhair fern that was used for a centerpiece for Christmas now adds a spring touch in the foyer

More fresh flowers for spring and for winter a fur throw and pillow in the living room

For the kitchen island another vase of fresh flowers along with sweet Valentine's

And while we are in the kitchen and I have spring fever I am planning our next cook out, blackened fish. Grilling is something we definitely do a lot of in spring

A COLD WINTER'S DAY

Around The House

We are definitely in the middle of winter with temps in the teens. With a dusting of snow on the ground I decided to add a few touches of tartan around the house along with a few things  I enjoy during the winter months

I love white flowers during cold months. These look pretty sitting on the fireplace hearth

I have to show you my sister's score, MacKenzie-Childs had a great sale with Frosty marked down. Last time I looked he was back full price! Isn't he the cutest!

After Christmas I love to get The French Hutch back to normal

These Tartan chargers were a gift. I plan to set a table using tartan plates and placemats

The tray holds a few collectibles with a little faux greenery. I love a little sparkle on the kitchen island

A favorite Juliska pattern dresses the back hutch. Enjoyed from Christmas through Valentine's Day with sweet winter scenes

Frosty is usually a great 

reminder it is winter. This year we don't need any reminders. Remember, we have snow on the ground!

And another guest room (Connor's room when he's here) with tartan linens and comforter and Connor's stuffed animals he says he is finished with. I gave him these over the years and he brought all of them back to me! 

These are the tartan stockings I hang here for Christmas 

My tartan school bag I keep next to the antique teachers desk. My sister found it at American Girl many years ago. It holds a reader, tablet and crayons.
