TABLES FOR TWO ~ LUNEVILLE FAIENCE

Lunéville hand painted French faience

Cherry Kay at Entertaining Women and I are collaborating on a table for two tablescape using our Lunéville faience.
I have two plates I purchased in France and I love displaying them along with other French faience I collect. The colors are a lovely dark pink and also blend beautifully with the colors in my Johnson’s Bros. Pink Castles.

Lunéville faience (pottery) is a tin-glazed earthenware. You can read some history of this beautiful faience here.

While touring France, Jim and I love traveling the more scenic roads. We just happened to pass a factory in St. Clément and we turned back so we could take a tour of the factory. It was small but it had a beautiful display of their faience. Since I had just recently purchased Quimper to ship home I didn’t want to buy more faience. Of course once we were on our way I was sorry I didn’t buy something for a souvenir. The last stop for the day on our agenda was Obernai where I had made reservations for the night. Such a charming town with the hotel right on the square. It was late and shops were closed, but looking from my hotel window I saw a shop across the way with plates in the window. Well you know where this is going now. After breakfast and a walk around town I was at the shop when it opened! Have you ever seen barrels and barrels of plates stacked to the rim? Well I never had and I think I must have gone through all of them. I chose a very classic design with the Coq and a design not familiar to me with the fleur-de-lis and laurel wreath.

The town of Obernai, France where I purchased my plates at a hardware store!

With only two plates for a tablescape I am pairing them with my Johnson Bros. Pink Castles

I set the table for lunch for an out of town friend visiting for the day. I love setting this table for two, it’s the perfect size. Wanting to keep the lunch simple I decided on a chicken salad.

This is how my study usually looks.

Table cleared and ready to set

I’m using my white linen table runner, I love the ruffles puddled on the floor.

Matching white linen napkins

Flatware is Louisiana by Oneida

Centerpiece is made with flowers from my my yard with the exception of the pink hydrangea

Twelve inch Pink Castles chargers

My two ten inch Lunéville plates fit nicely

A Pink Castles platter holds the centerpiece for more color.

Perfect timing, my lilies are blooming

On the back of the plate there is a card with the history of the faience.

Marked with the name of the town, St. Clément

I enjoyed setting my Lunéville table for two in collaboration with Cherry Kay. Here you only get two pieces, Cherry Kay will amaze you with her beautiful collection. Hope you will leave a comment, it’s the only way I know you stopped by.

I hope you will come back soon, I will share with you in my next post my chicken salad and how I dressed it up for serving.

  1. I'm so excited to partner with you for out Luneville - Tables for Two. Using the Pink Castles is inspirational, and your garden flowers are pure romance. I can hardly wait to show KC; she has Pink Castles, too. Now I'm pretty sure that she'll be digging in my china room and ferreting off my Luneville! And that's okay! Thanks so much for collaborating with me. I'm thrilled to have made a new friend. Cherry Kay

  2. Emily, you and Cherry Kay both gave us beautiful tables full of inspiration. I love that you paired the Luneville with Pink Castles. And your Stargazer Lilies are the perfect compliment to this table. I'm fond of tables for two, especially when set in a library or foyer. That gives the meal a little touch of the unexpected. Your linens are wonderful too! ~ Sarah
PS I recently found a set of the Luneville St. Clement faience with the coq motif. I couldn't leave them behind, though certainly didn't need them. '-)

  3. Wow, what a lovely table! I love the color in both patterns. I also love the patterns you chose. Goodness, I don't know which one I like best! Your study is so pretty, and it's the perfect setting for an intimate dinner for two!

I love your runner (I found one like it on sale for nothing last fall) and the little ruffles on the napkins match it so well!

Your centerpiece is stunning!!! I like the arrangement on the platter.

  14. Love the Faience and how it works with your other Pink Castles! Very beautiful home and table setting! But then, I wouldn't expect anything else!

Nice to visit -- for some reason, though I'm a google follower, it never shows up in my feed. So I've missed a lot -- for which I am very sorry!

  20. Exquisite. You literally transformed that table, Emily, and I LOVE a table for two. The plates are GORGEOUS. Since we moved, I only kept my wedding china and white pieces to keep things simple since we have to move again, but I would certainly welcome these.
You know I love a table, tell me more about your table for two collaboration. Is it a blog party/challenge? Sounds wonderful.
    xoxo's
